Q: What can you tell us about this project?
A: The Templeton Rye distillery is located in the small town of Templeton, IA. The above image is from the tasting room within the visitor center, the last stop on the distillery tour. Along with the visitor center, the distillery’s campus also includes a production facility and a barrel aging warehouse. The entire project came in close to $30 million.

Q: What was the project scope?
A: Our scope included Programming, Site Plan, Architectural Drawings, Interior Design, and Graphic Design. Our clients requirements were to stay true to the Templeton Rye brand, convey its history, show the process, and create a unique experience for all visitors.

Q: How would you describe the design style of this project?
A: Rustic, industrial, true to rural Iowa, and inspired by whiskey barrels.

Q: How did a tin ceiling support the design style?
A: The aged finish on the tin ceiling fit within the rustic industrial aesthetic, and we wanted to use something of interest on the ceiling that complemented the use of mixed metals and woods throughout.

Q: Why did you choose this Pattern #6 in Copper Brushed Bronze?
A: The colorway and finish fit the aesthetic and the scale of the pattern was appropriate for the space. The geometric angles and shape of the bar, wood paneling, mosaic tile outline & ceiling all tied in together.

Q: What led you to purchase tin panels from American Tin Ceilings?
A: Samples were quick and easy to get, customer service was great, and there were many patterns and finishes to select from.

Q: What can you share about this project that our readers may be interested in?
A: There is a ton of history behind Templeton Rye Whiskey, and the impact on the community cannot be understated. A few of the Simonson team members are from this area and have relatives or family friends that were an integral part of keeping Templeton Rye alive during the prohibition era.
